Tying Tags, Tricks and Treats

On October 22, the Midland Area Catholic Community Middle School Youth cut the yarn and tied thousands of tags for this year’s United Way Sharing Tree program. This partnership has been a longstanding tradition in our middle school program and during the time they tie, the kids answer “getting to know you deeper” questions and they talk about some of the needs/wants listed on the tags. It’s funny to hear some of their comments/complaints about “child labor” as they tie tags for a whole 90 minutes J In a few weeks they will be doing a lesson on child labor and it will be wonderful to go back to this experience to compare what they were doing with what many children in the world face for 8-10 hours a day, every day just to make enough money to help their families buy food. The SPOOKTACULAR Halloween party we had on October 29!!! It was awesome to have our friends from Our Lady of Grace join us for this event. The kids came dressed in their Halloween best! The costumes were amazing and the music provided by Chippertainment set the backdrop for a night of fun; dancing, basketball, 9 square in the air, BINGO, Fear Fact-Or Fiction (guess the gross thing in the box), Dracula’s Donut eating contest with fangs, nail/tattoo/face painting, mask and pumpkin decorating and did I mention JUNK FOOD??? Lots and lots of junk food!! Thank you to all of the parents and catechists who made the night such a memorable time for the kids and thanks to the kids for making it memorable for US!!!
